She was preceded in death by parents, William Edmund Hand and Dorothea Clarette (Berry) Hand; and her sister, Jeanette (Hand) Boettner Dowell.
Carolyn grew up in the Fort Worth area and graduated from Texas Christian University in 1965. She married Ray on December 17, 1966, at Sagamore Hill Baptist Church in Fort Worth. They lived in the Kerrville area for over 40 years where Carolyn was active in the community through business, church and art.
Her favorite time was spent with Ray, husband of 57 years, with her children and grandchildren, with friends in book club, bridge and other groups, and especially painting in her studio overlooking the Guadalupe. Carolyn is often described as an incredibly talented and creative person. She worked in interior design, she created a beautiful home and loved to entertain. She spent many years of her life as an artist, creating wonderful paintings.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Ray Rothwell, and her children, Brandon Rothwell and Tiffany Cone, and Tiffany's husband, Jason. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Savannah Cone, William Cone, Camille Rothwell and Walker Cone. She is also survived by her brother, Billy C Hand and his wife, Kathy, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She loved her family very much and always looked forward to her time with them.
Carolyn was a dear friend to so many people in her life. She loved others with a kindness and joy that was treasured by those fortunate enough to call her friend. She was fun, happy, endearing, ready to have a deep conversation and was a wonderful encourager. We will miss her terribly but will remember her life as a life well lived, full of love for family, friends, her country and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Memorial services will be held at 2 PM, Friday, March 1, 2024, at Trinity Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. John Wheat and Gary Anderson.

I just learned of Carolyn's passing, and I'm terribly sorry. I always enjoyed when she and Ray would stop into the gallery to see what was new, share supportive words and talk art. I had recently wondered at why I had not seen them in quite a while. I'm saddened at the news and that I have gone this long without reaching out to say hello. I've missed and will continue to miss seeing Carolyn and her beautiful presence.

My heart is broken to hear of Carolyn’s passing. As double cousins I feel it doubly hard, I loved her so. Growing up we played together and encouraged one another. I can still see her from our last visit.
Keeping all of you in my prayers.
Sincerely, Jeanie Holloway

Dear Ray, Tiffany and Brandon,
What a rare and absolutely beautiful example of a life well lived. ❤️. Those of us fortunate enough to have grown up in Hunt, Texas know first hand what a deep love for God and family Carolyn possessed. Her smile radiated the love of Jesus.
Years ago, after Daddy died so unexpectedly at 51, Carolyn was a great source of encouragement to me, my siblings and especially to Mom. I have never forgotten her genuine kindness. She loved life and was so purposeful to speak words of life.
I am thankful for her. I learned a lot about appreciating being in the moment from her.
I know that Christie, Jenny and Jason join me in sending love and prayers to you and yours.
Blessings,
Margaret Moore Docter

Mr. Rothwell, Tiffany and Brandon,
I am very saddened to hear of your dear mother's passing. She was such a graceful and wonderful mother to not only your family but to all of us that met her. I won't forget her contagious smile and of course how friendly she was. I hope that your family knows that she won't ever be forgotten and thank you for sharing her with us...(especially growing up and going to school at Ingram Tom Moore HS -- what a great lady!!) She will be sorely missed!!
