On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, William (Bill) Edward Rush, loving father, grandfather, and friend of many, passed away at the age of 90.
Bill Rush was born on January 6, 1934, in Mirando City, TX to Charles Edward Rush and Grace Lucille Brannan Rush. Bill had an older brother and three younger sisters and grew up in Alice, Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956 and served for 2 years. Bill married the love of his life, Flo, and they lived in Alice until 1977. He was a dedicated lifelong employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company until he retired in 1986. He and Flo then moved to Bandera, Texas. Bill was very handy, so he and Flo built their dream house on Medina Lake. They later opened an antique store in Bandera. In 2002, they moved to Kerrville, Texas to be close to their daughters and grandkids. Bill had a very easy going personality. He liked to spend time puttering (doing chores and fixing stuff that nobody knows needs fixing) and watching old westerns on TV. Though he suffered from dementia in his final years, he remained the same - once a gentleman, always a gentleman.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife Florene (Flo) Rush, daughter, Connie Journey, brother, James (J.L) Rush, three sisters, Lou Risley, Charlene Alice Boyer and Barbara Sue Landry.
Bill is survived by daughters Lucille Jones and husband Gary of Kerrville, and Glenna Zimmer and husband Bob of Boerne; sons, Mark Rush and wife Sandy of Hempstead, and Mitchell Rush and wife Susan of Belton; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the many exceptional people at Morningside Ministries in Boerne who are too numerous to name here and the Alamo Hospice who always took such great care of Bill.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in his name to Morningside Ministries at www.mmliving.org/giving/donate or The Hope Foundation, Alamo Hospice, 1595 South Main St., Suite 101, Boerne, TX 78006.
Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be missed forever.
Private family services will be held at a future date.
