Beulah met her husband, south Texas cowboy, Marvin O. Pickens, while she was working supporting the war effort in California. Marvin was stationed there before shipping out with the Navy. They married in August 1943. Their first son, Marvin Lynn, was born in California in 1944. They eventually settled in Kerrville where sons, Wayne, 1946, and Tom, 1949, and daughter, Bonnie Jean, 1953, were born.
Beulah operated a child care home for many years and the children she kept have shared beautiful memories of the gentle, kind, and loving "momma" she was as she cared for them.
Beulah worked also at the U.S.D.A. station in Kerrville for a period of time, where Marvin spent many years with the programs, developed at the station, that were so important to the ag industry.
Beulah was a member of the United Medthodist Church, while living in Kerrville. The family moved to the farm in 1970 where she lived out her life caring for her family. She celebrated her 100th birthday there last year with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandchildren. And of course, her many dogs, much loved and cared for, joined in all the celebration.
Beulah was approaching her 101st birthday and continued to love and share her life wisdom till her last day. She was still writing beautiful cards to each on their birthdays and continued her prayer coverage for her family, prayers that will live on, as will the love she shared with all.
Her life will be celebrated at a graveside service at the Garden of Memories in Kerrville at 2:00 on Thursday, April 11, 2024.
