Susan graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, MO. After graduation, she accepted a position with the Immigration and Naturalization Department, a program implemented by President Dwight Eisenhower: Welcome to America in New York. Later, she worked for Sinclair Oil. She enjoyed living in NYC for 10 years.
In 1970, Susan moved to Houston where many family members resided. There, she was employed by Shell Oil in the International Travel Department. In 2000, Susan married the wonderful William W. Vann and in 2003, they moved to Kerrville where they made their home. They traveled quite a bit during their married life. Bill passed away in 2015.
Susan was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, the Junior League of Houston, DAR, and Riverhill Country Club.
She is survived by her sister, Lucie Constant Taylor Masterson and husband Neill; her beloved niece and nephew, Constant Clare Barone and husband Michael, Neill Masterson IV and wife Kathryn and their children, Anne Constant, Lucie Clare, and Jean-Eliza Susan Barone and Robert Taylor and Caroline Ware Masterson. Also, Bill's dear children, Liza Broome and husband Jim, Clay Vann, granddaughter Cara Frye and husband Charlie and baby William.
Susan was truly one of the kindest, wittiest individuals anyone could meet, beautiful inside and out. A gifted writer, she wrote many vignettes of childhood in Laurel. Her family would like to thank family friends and helpers, Vernon Brown and Cathy Cahela, also New Century Hospice, and Right at Home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church or other charities.
A graveside service will be held in Laurel in the summer.

Susan was a lovely, sweet and kind lady. The few times I got to meet her were very special. We talked about the HGTV program Home Town based out of Laurel Mississippi and that’s when she told me that she and her family were from Laurel! A true Southern Lady! 💞 One evening when I dropped by to give another caregiver a ride; I took my little Pomeranian, MiaBelle in to meet Miss Susan. She was thrilled to see her! Again; Susan was a very sweet and lovely lady & will truly be missed. Rest in Peace beautiful 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

I wish the family peace and condolences. Susan was a dear person and I had enjoyed visiting with her, mostly by phone, from time to time. We enjoyed the same books. My heart goes out to Constant. You were such a wonderful caregiver. Blessings to you and all the family, Pat
