Our beloved, Lucy Lee Barnes Murray, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on May 11, 2024 in Boerne, TX, at the age of 80. She was born December 23, 1943 in McAllen, TX.

Lucy is survived by her sons Jack Ament and wife, Shannon Ament, and Reagan Ament and wife, Jennifer Ament. Grandchildren Ryan Ament, Jackson Ament, Harper Ament and Brooks Ament. Sister Betty Barnes Seidensticker, brother Byron Barnes and wife, Beth Barnes. Nephews Kevin and Travis Barnes, niece Kelley Hughes, stepchildren Mary Claire Fawcett, Blair Murray, and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack P. Murray, mother Mabel Barnes and father Herbert Barnes.

Lucy grew up in Alvin, TX. She was an animal lover, and took to officiating her 2 younger siblings. She enjoyed her high school years as a twirler and drum major in the marching band. She appreciated music, and delighted in playing the piano and other instruments. She was known to be a knowledgeable tutor, helping her peers with homework and quizzes, and setting in motion her future in education. After graduating from Alvin High School, she attended Houston Baptist University and received her bachelor's degree. Lucy began her career in education teaching 6th grade in Alvin. After receiving her Masters degree at Sam Houston State University, she accepted the guidance counselor position at Peterson Middle School in Kerrville, TX. With leadership in her blood, she went back to school and earned a second masters degree in school administration. During the latter part of her career, she became Assistant Principal at Peterson Middle School, Principal at Tom Daniels Elementary and ultimately accepted an Assistant Superintendent position as Director of Special Programs for Kerrville ISD. She served instrumental roles in creating innovative programs and curriculum for KISD and improving community outreach programs throughout the Texas Hill Country. She was hired by Doss ISD as an administrative consultant to navigate the challenges of low enrollment rural school districts. Lucy retired from education in 1997.

Lucy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Alvin and later joined Trinity Baptist Church in Kerrville. After retirement, she fancied shopping with her sister, bird watching, gardening, traveling with her husband, Jack, social gatherings, theatre, and, like most Texans, enjoyed a good plate of Mexican food. One of her favorite activities was spending time with her sons and their families.

We remember hearing Lucy's laugh as she carried on, talking on the phone or gathered with her friends and family. She valued life, and understood that it is what you make of it, and she surely relished her time here. She will truly be missed, but remembered so fondly by all of those she touched and impacted along the way.

The family will be honoring Lucy by gathering for an informal celebration of life. Anyone who's life was touched by her and would like to attend, please reach out to Grimes for specific details.

Arrangements will be made by Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, TX.
