Tommy ''Tom'' McGlathery, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with Jesus on August 3rd, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas.

Tom McGlathery was born the youngest of three to Nathan McGlathery and Lera Brown McGlathery on July 13, 1937, in Tyler, Texas. He grew up in Longview, Texas, and loved the outdoors and music. Tom graduated from Longview High School in 1955 and continued his studies at Kilgore Junior College.

In 1957, Tom joined the United States Navy and served our country until 1961 as an Aviation Electronics Technician on a P5Marlin Seaplane on the West Coast and overseas.

After his service, Tom moved to Austin, Texas, to complete his degree in Biology at the University of Texas. Upon graduation, he was hired by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Parks Division as an Interpretive Parks Planner. Tom became a Regional Park Director and moved to Kerrville in 1972 until his retirement. He oversaw the beautiful Texas Hill Country area and its 16 state parks for over 25 years.

In 1977, he married Sheryl Bodenhamer, the love of his life, in Mason, Texas. He was a loving and devoted father to his three children, Mark, Dawn, and Kendra, and a proud grandfather to thirteen and a great-grandfather to two.

Tom exemplified kindness, grace, love, and humility in every way. He loved to attend his grandchildren's sporting events, woodworking, gardening, fixing things, and enjoying the great outdoors. During his retirement, he faithfully volunteered for Habitat for Humanity - Kerr County for over 20 years, loving the work and the people. Tom was also a devoted member of the Kerrville Global Methodist Church.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Lera McGlathery; his sister, Helen Willson; and brothers, James and Glenn McGlathery.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Sheryl; his children, Mark (Heather) McGlathery of Granbury, Dawn (Mike) Embry of Dripping Springs, Kendra (Duncan) Mann of San Antonio; along with his grandchildren, Levi McGlathery, Luke McGlathery, Caleb (Hannah) Embry, Madison (Andrew) Clyde, Noah Embry, Cameron (Brandon) Young, Madison (Mark) Robinson, Joshua Embry, David Mann, Kathryn McGlathery, Thomas Mann, Gracie Embry, Trystan; and his great-grandchildren, Ember Embry and Lillie Robinson.

A memorial service celebrating Tom's life will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, Texas.

The family asks that you honor Tom's memory with a gift to Habitat for Humanity Kerr County or Kerrville Global Methodist Building Fund in lieu of flowers.

The family would like to thank the excellent staff at the Emergency Department at Peterson Regional Hospital in Kerrville, Texas, and the University Hospital Trauma and ICU Department in San Antonio, Texas, for the exceptional care and love they provided to Tom.

We have been blessed so much by Tom and Sheryl. A truly joyous afternoon to we got to know ; outside of the social visits. We were so touched that in 86 when we got married ; the sisters and their husbands flew in a small plane and stopped by our little home to wish us a good life. I also was very blessed to travel with my grandparents as a child and get to know this part of our family
May God provide each day a measure of comfort and eternal hope to Sheryl and their family. Doc Tom Allen and Nancy send their live being unable to travel and Anne & Paul Halpin Tom and Heather Kitchens also.

Although I only had the pleasure of meeting Tom for the first time at Madison’s wedding, I feel blessed. It was obvious how much he loved his family and how important he was to them. He will missed and always loved.
