Jose Enrique Barreto II, 75, of Fajardo, Puerto Rico and Kerrville, TX, passed away on September 15th, 2024 in San Antonio. He was born in New York, New York to Concepcion Diaz and Jose Barreto Sr. on October 20th, 1948. He married Carmen Marie Gascot on January 9th, 1977 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

He proudly served as a Law Enforcement officer/Detective for Bexar, Kerr, Kendall, and Bandera County police departments for 30 years. He received many awards and honors throughout his career but for Jose the brotherhood and lifelong friendships forged with his fellow officers, stories of his time in the department and the roots he grew here in the heart of the Hill Country were his biggest honor.

Jose was preceded in death by his mother, Concepcion Diaz; father, Jose Barreto; and brother-in-law, Rolando Gascot.

Survivors include his wife, Carmen Gascot; his son, Jose Barreto III and daughter-in-law Lorena Barreto; son, Joel Barreto and daughter-in-law Amanda Barreto; his sisters, Milagro Martinez and Josie Robinson; grandchildren, Ivone Marie Allen and Loraine Barreto; great-grandchildren, Wade, Owen and Luke Allen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jay Robinson, Ivan Martinez, Jorge Gascot, Noris Gascot, Wilfredo Gascot Sr., Jose Gascot Jr., Yolanda Cabrera Gascot, Leonor La Costa and Carlos La Costa.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm Saturday, September 28th, 2024, at Grimes Funeral Chapels with the Honorable William ''Bill'' E. Ragsdale officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Paul Gonzales, Ricardo Martinez, Ivan Martinez Jr., Tammy Wilson, Jose Gascot, Yolanda Gascot, Carlos La Costa Jr., Leonor Marie Perez La Costa, Natalie Cecilio, Axel Cecilio, Willfredo Gascot Jr., Josean Rivera Roldan and Sally Gomez for being with us throughout this trying time, as well as Dr. Saleh Jaafar and River City Hospice for their excellent care.

QDEP querido amigo de tantos años. Nos conocimos cuando Milagros y Yo estabamos en octavo(8) grado. Recuerdo con mucho cariño cuando Milagros y yo estudiabamos en la mesa del comedor y tu venias a hacernos chistes.
