Willie Truman Wright passed away peacefully at River Hills Health and Rehabilitation on February 23, 2025 in Kerrville, Texas at the age of 87.
Willie is survived by his son, Lloyd Wright and wife, Heather of Forney, Texas and daughter, Carolyn Kieschnick and husband, Gary of Kerrville, Texas; grandson, Allen Wright of Nashville, Tennessee; granddaughter, Megan Wright of Coconut Creek, Florida; siblings, Bill Wright and wife, Catherine of Austin, Texas; James Wright of Harper, Texas; Geraldine Durban and husband, Bill of Mountain Home, Texas, Lorene Ellebracht of Kerrville, Texas and LaVerne Moldenhauer of Fredericksburg, Texas. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Eugene Wright and Grace Wright of Kerrville, sisters, Dorothy Rogers of Lufkin, Texas and Bessie Mangum of Pearland, Texas.
Willie was born on April 17, 1937, in Center Point, Texas to Eugene Wright and Grace Wright. He graduated from Tivy High School in 1956. After graduation Willie enlisted in the U. S. Army. His assignments include Fort Eustis, Virginia; Fort Lewis, Washington; South Korea; and Atlanta Army Depot Forest Park, Georgia. He was honorably discharged in Aug 1962 at the rank of Sergeant with a military specialty of Airframe Repairman.
Following his military service, Willie started working for Mooney Aircraft at their headquarters based in Kerrville, Texas.
He worked at Mooney until being hired by Bell Helicopter in Fort Worth, Texas. Willie served as Customer Support Representative for over 30 years. His US based assignments include MCAS New River, Jacksonville, North Carolina to Whidbey Island NAS, Oak Harbor, Washington to MCAS Kaneohe, Hawaii to Climatic Laboratory, Eglin AFB, Florida. Willie spent the majority of his assignments internationally - which included Saigon, South Vietnam; Bangkok, Thailand; Vienna, Austria; Libreville, Gabon, Africa; Sydney, Australia; Baghdad, Iraq; and Cape Town, South Africa.
Willie was an accomplished mechanic, both rotary and fixed wing pilot, as well as an avid enthusiast for adventure. From water skiing in the Saigon River, to snow skiing in the Alps, to fishing the Gabon Estuary, to hang gliding with the Texas Soaring Association, he always seemed to find one more adventure.
After retirement from Bell Helicopter, Willie founded Wright Aviation in Georgetown, Texas. He had a passion for instructing new pilots and working on aircraft.
After working and traveling the world, Willie moved back to Kerrville where he enjoyed Dairy Queen banana splits, feeding the hill country deer, watching old westerns, and visiting with his siblings.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, March 14, 2025, at 2 PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels, Kerrville, Texas. Pastor John David Templeton will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Willie Truman's life.

To the Wright family, Lloyd, Carolyn (Cissy): My most sincere condolences to you. Know that you have many fond and funny memories growing up on Quinlan St, a couple of garden weddings, your aunts and uncles with their families visiting your grandparents. A large family, much laughter. Hold on to your memories. I lived across the street and remember your grandparents always ready for a wave, a smile or whatever was needed. Lloyd and my dad riding horses down Quinlan, how far, donโt know; that, my dad really enjoyed (thank you). ๐โค๏ธ๐
