Evelyn Shirley Anderson, 94, of Kerrville, passed away on May 24, 2025, in Kerrville, TX. She was born October 7, 1930, in State Center, Iowa, to Julia Munsey and Walter Dettman. She married a wonderful man, Clifford Anderson, in California who preceded her in death on May 1, 2005.

She was an incredibly strong woman who grew up in Iowa and started work at the young age of 14 at the telephone company. She continued with a career as a medical records consultant in administration that she very much enjoyed and took her all over the world including Iowa, Guam, New Jersey, and California. Her daughters, Kristine Hirl and Karla Kersten, joined her for many adventures through the years. And while all the many places were home, she settled happily in The Hill Country and Kerrville became the place we all came together where she enjoyed peace and happiness in her retirement years. She particularly loved living in Vicksburg Village and Tierra Linda Ranches where she made the best of friends.

Family was extremely important to her; she absolutely loved all her grandkids and would tell everyone about all their accomplishments and activities. And family included those that came into her life through the years, she has a vast amount of friends and people that have become her family throughout every stage of her life…and she never missed a holiday or birthday of any of those she loved.

Who she was could also be seen outside the home as she was a giver to her community. She loved the arts and often gave to the community arts programs when she could. You could find her at the symphony, at a local community play, or line dancing at the senior center. She loved Jesus, and her church (First United Methodist Church) was dear to her heart. Her friends were more like family to her; she never met a stranger. If someone needed something she was there to do what she could. And she visited the world over and over again, had the most extraordinary experiences and touched lives and hearts everywhere she went.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Anderson; father and mother, Walter and Mildred Dettman; her sisters, Barb and Dorothy; daughter, Karla Kersten; a sweet son who died at birth; granddaughter, Jennifer Matzen; grandson, Jack Anderson; and niece, Penny Boysel.

Survivors include: children and spouses: Kristine and Clifford Hirl, Charles ''Bud'' Kersten, and Mark and Patty Anderson; grandchildren, great and great-great-grandchildren, Cliff, Dana and Kaylee Hirl; Danny, Kim, Liam, Dyllan and Finley Cossu; Angie, Mike, Shilah and Sara Walters; Brittanie, Jamie, Braxton, Karington, Scarlett and Callie Williquette; and Brianna, AJ, Bella and Allison Derpinghaus; Mark Anderson and Lauren Anderson.

Funeral will be at 10am on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson St., Kerrville, TX, with Rev. David Payne officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 3250 Fredericksburg Rd., Kerrville, TX.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all the many friends who have become family that have come around us during this time. Also wish to thank Hilltop Village Nursing and Rehab in Kerrville and Peterson Hospice for all their love, time and dedication to Evelyn…we will forever be grateful to all the staff who treated her like family.

Some obituaries sting a little more than others. I met Evelyn not so long ago and was mesmerized by her beauty from the get go. Despite her age, she was very matter-of-fact and so classy in her delivery of how she wanted things to be. While she will be missed, holy moly, 94 years of LIFE is something not everyone achieves. Rest sweetly Miss Evelyn.
Lots of love and tears,
