Dolores Welcome McKiddie (née Brenek) passed from this life on August 6, 2025, at the age of 89. She was born at home in Sweet Home, Texas on June 23, 1936, to Fred and Carrie (née Baros) Brenek.

After leaving home in her late teens, Dolores moved to Houston and worked as a carhop at the Prince's Drive-in. It was there she met the handsome man of her dreams; the one who would become her husband. On their first date, he asked her to marry him. Three weeks later, they were wed and remained so for 71 years, bringing three children into this world.

Despite not having a lot of formal education, she was a savvy businesswoman. For several years, Dolores owned and operated the Country Totem, a convenient store in Pearland Texas. Later, she worked for Southwestern Bell starting as a telephone operator but quickly promoted to group manager of operator services. A move from Houston to Grapeland, Texas in 1974 ended that career but led to her opening a successful fabric store called the Golden Thimble with her best friend Bertha.

Dolores was a fabulous painter, but above all else, she will be remembered for her outstanding domestic skills. Her down-home cooking was second to none (except maybe for her mother's). Her sewing skills, however, were renowned and she made almost all of her daughter's school clothes. But while she fashioned beautiful outfits, her quilts are what made her famous. One year she made 10 quilts and placed them under the tree for each family member celebrating Christmas Day in her home.

Dolores treasured family more than anything. While she loved her children, she cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Joe, McKiddie, Jr.; son, Derek McKiddie; great-grandson, Walker Heimann; and brothers, Leon Brenek and Leroy Brenek.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Brenda Heimann and husband Bud of Kerrville; son, Joe McKiddie III of Pearland; daughter-in-law, Bridget McKiddie of Kerrville; grandchildren, Megan Cavazos, Meagan Murray, Drew Murray, Jake Heimann, Cooper McKiddie; and great-grandchildren, Carter Myers, Madelyn Cavazos, Finn Murray, Brady Heimann, McKinnlee Murray, Connor Cavazos, Brad Murray, Jackson Heimann, and Hadley Murray; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Peterson Hospice for the excellent care and compassionate support given during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peterson Hospice in Dolores' name.

A graveside service is scheduled for 11:30 AM, Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Following the service, family and friends will gather at 513 Fairway Drive in Kerrville to share memories.
