Daniel Edward Waters, 81, passed away peacefully October 24, 2025, in Houston, Texas after a long battle with cancer.
Dan was born on August 2, 1944, to W.B. and Lola Waters in San Antonio, Texas. The family soon relocated to Pecos, Texas where Dan grew up, attended school and in 1962 graduated from Pecos High.
After a short stint at Browning Ferris Industries, Dan became interested in exotic game such as giraffe, zebra, kudu, wildebeests, and many other exotics. He raised these animals on the family ranch, and sold them to zoos and private parties across the country. He lived in Mt. Home, Texas on the ranch before he met the love of his life, Nahlee. The couple married on February 4, 2002. They made their home in Houston.
The couple enjoyed traveling together, particularly cruising. They cruised to Russia, Scandinavia, Europe, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Mexico and Alaska. Cruising offered opportunities to look for wildlife, shop for antiques, and partake of excellent cuisine, all of which Dan enjoyed.
Dan loved to hunt and fish. He looked forward every year to an annual hunting trip in west Texas with his two brothers.
Dan trusted Jesus as his savior in childhood. As an adult, he was a strong believer. A humble man, he had a heart for others and often communicated the gospel to friends and strangers alike.
Dan is survived by his wife, Nahlee; son, Daniel Waters, Jr.; stepsons, Kelly Henson and wife Marilee, Jason Henson and wife Amy; grandchildren, Dalton Waters, Dylan Henson, Ryan Henson, Sean Henson, Brodie Medina, Emma Henson, Alexa Henson, Holly Henson; brother, Bill Waters and wife MaryAnn; brother, Lou Waters and wife Wanda; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, Texas. Interment will follow immediately at Garden of Memories Cemetery.

I am sorry to learn of Dan’s passing. He used to eat lunch with his mom at Inn of the Hills. He took great care of her during that time. We shared a common birthday and roots in Pecos. He loved his family, never had a hard word for anyone. I had lots of regard for Dan. I’m confident Dan is not just in your past but in your future as well because of his faith. Condolences to his family.
