Ronald Bruce Usherwood (73) of Kerrville, TX passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 19, 2025. He was born in Quincy, IL to Howard Usherwood and Vera Hanlin Usherwood on March 25, 1952. He married Gayle Shick on October 21, 1983, in Artesia, NM.
Ronald (Ronnie or Ron as his family referred to him) attended school in Quincy, IL and graduated from Quincy High School in 1970. After graduation, Ron worked in different factories in Quincy. He moved to Artesia, NM in 1980 and obtained his CDL. He drove trucks for Halliburton, Steere Tank Lines and with his brother, Skip. He met Gayle in Artesia through mutual acquaintances. Wanting to be home more often, he started a commercial lawn maintenance company. He went on to gain his massage therapy license and became a licensed therapist for the last 15 years of his employment. Through their 42 years together, Ron and Gayle made moves to Dallas Fort Worth, TX, St Louis, MO, Houston, TX, and finally retiring in Kerrville.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Vera Usherwood; brother, Skip Usherwood; brother-in-law, Ronald Tasker; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carrol and Rose Mary Shick.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Gayle of the home; sisters, Carol Tasker of Artesia, NM, Judy Myers and her husband Gene of Quincy, IL; brother, Steve Usherwood and wife Karen of Artesia, NM; sister-in-law, Barbara Usherwood of Midlothian, TX; brothers-in-law, Glenn Shick and wife Kathy of Corpus Christi, TX, Gerald Shick of Midland, TX; sister-in-law, Geneice Brame and husband Danny of Dryden, TX; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Ron's interests included playing pool with his family in their home and taking the boat out on the lakes. He loved the outdoors. He would feed the deer in his front yard and his favorite, ''Mr. Nubs,'' would visit him while he tended to his plants. His prize plant was a rose bush grown with a starter cutting from his great-grandmother's rose bush. He continued to take cuttings or bushes grown from her rose bush to each home he and Gayle shared. Ron was also a collector of clown figures. Specifically, his Emmitt Kelley Jr. clowns, an impressive collection that encompasses a room in their home. While they lived in Houston, Ron had a classic 1977 F150 he would take to car shows. He would meticulously keep it clean and polished. No one could make that deep blue shine like he could.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 11:00am and chapel service will directly follow at 1:00pm entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson St. Kerrville, TX, with Ronnie Williams officiating. Graveside service to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 3250 Fredericksburg Rd., Kerrville, TX. Pallbearers will be Ron's nephews.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Peterson Home Health and Peterson Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite charity, and condolences may be sent to www.grimesfuneralchapels.com.
