Dean Franklin Porter, 89, of Kerrville, passed away on December 19th, 2025, in San Marcos, Texas. He was born in Big Spring, Texas to Lee Franklin and Louise Elizabeth Porter on May 30, 1936. He married Jane Elizabeth Reynolds on June 28, 1957, in Big Spring, Texas.
His family resided in Big Spring, Texas where he grew up and graduated from Big Spring High School, after which, he joined the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M University, graduating in 1958 with degrees in Petroleum Engineering and Geological Engineering. He began his career in the petroleum industry with Schlumberger as a Well Logging Engineer in Beaumont, Texas, then subsequently in Corpus Christi and Kingsville, Texas. About 7 years later he joined Sun Oil Company, beginning in Premont, Texas as a Production Engineer, followed by an advancement move to McAllen, Texas where in 1972 he was also granted a Certificate of Registration to practice as a Professional Engineer from the Texas State Board of Registration. Soon after, Dean was promoted and transferred to Sun Oil's Corporate office in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to support International Operations. Two years later, in 1975, Dean's career path went International with continued advancement in both operational and senior management roles that took him globally to Jakarta, Indonesia; Aberdeen, Scotland; London, England; Hong Kong; and Shekou, China. With brief in-between re-assignments back in the U.S. to Dallas, Texas and Denver, Colorado. His professional and personal experiences expanded his appreciation of various cultures and led to many fond business and personal friendships both here in U.S. and around the world.
In 1992 Dean retired and he and Jane moved to the Texas Hill Country, settling at Tierra Linda Ranch in Kerrville, Texas. After a few years Dean was offered and took an assignment back in China as a management consultant with Triton Energy. He and Jane were off to the orient once again. When finally retiring and settling back in Tierra Linda, Dean stayed active and engaged in many activities including: his proud service with the Tierra Linda Volunteer Fire Department for over 25-years, his service as first Vice-President, then President the following year on Tierra Linda's HOA Board of Directors, his church (First Presbyterian Church) involvement serving as a Committee member and Deacon, his years of volunteer work with C.A.M. (Christian Assistance Ministry), and his association with the Kerr County Aggie Club. He also enjoyed other activities such as playing tennis, golf, bridge, and dominoes but was truly happy to just enjoy the company of his family and the local and broader community.

Dear Steve and Traci, Greg and Beth,
We are so sorry for the loss of Dean and Jane both this year.
It is hard to lose your parents, no matter their age, or state of health.
I have great memories of their kindness and hospitality, when we were all
we were all teens in Jakarta. We got to say hi to them once or twice when visiting
Bethany’s aunt and uncle at Tiera Linda.
God bless you all. We hope to see you soon.
Love,
Stuart (and Bethany) Coles
