Ingeborg "Inge" (Nitsche) Chambliss passed away Friday, August 30, 2024, in a local care facility, at the age of 97 years. She was born in Hirschberg, Germany, to Curt Nitsche and Gertrude Knobloch Nitsche.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Kurt Nitsche.

She is survived by a sister, Sigrid Werner, from Munich, Germany; step-daughter, Ann Packard (Dighton), from Dallas, Texas; step-granddaughter, Morgan Packard Griffith (Mike), from New Orleans, Louisiana; niece, Heidi Sulak (Jeff), from Itasca, Texas; nephew, Mark Nitsche, from Uslar, Germany; nephew, Matthias Werner from Munich, Germany; sister-in-law, Erna Nitsche, from Uslar, Germany; step-niece, Jan Cody (Ron), from Camp Verde, Texas; step-nephew, Joe Chambliss (Marcia), from Houston, Texas; and numerous great-nephews and nieces.

Inge and her family suffered great loss after World War II when the entire state they lived in was awarded to Poland as an ally against Germany. They lost their home and livelihood without compensation. She married an American soldier, Hershell Jones, and came to America in 1954. She proudly became an American citizen.

She married Donald E. Chambliss in 1983, who preceded her in death in 2005. She held various secretarial positions throughout the years, the most recent before retirement having been Schreiner Bank in Kerrville.

She had great love for her family and was an avid bowler throughout her lifetime, still a league bowler as recently as May 2024. She also had great love for animals, especially cats, dogs and her backyard birds. Her pride and joy was her cat "Cosmo."

At her request, no services are planned.

Aunt Inge will be missed. She was a very kind lady and helped take care of my mother (Ruby) her sister in law for many years. She was always happy to see us when we went down to visit at Jan's place for celebrations. Her and Uncle Donald will always be missed. Our condolences to her family in Germany and friends.

I knew Inge through her close friendship with my sister-in-law, Karen Weber. Inge was a very special lady who became almost like family to us all. My husband and I enjoyed many meals, holidays, and get-togethers with Inge in attendance - most recently we had lunch together on my birthday in July. I'm so glad I got an Inge hug that day! The stories about her past were captivating and at times heartbreaking. I'll never forget her showing me a small hanky she carried with her, a memento of her family and childhood in war-torn Europe. My family will miss her greatly, and I pray that she is once again healthy and smiling with her family in Heaven. Ich libe dich, Inge.

My sympathies and condolences mostly to Joe and Jan and their families because of church and school friendships.
But her husband, Donald, was friend and classmate with my mother’s THS graduating class. So also sympathy and condolences to Ann. And everyone loved Dr. Packard and many have benefited from his family’s generosity.
