Tommy went to school at and graduated from Brownwood High School. After marrying and settling in Houston, TX, she worked as an executive secretary for Texaco in Houston, TX until she left that position to move out of the country with Curt for his job. After several years abroad, they retired to Kerrville in 1980. Tommy served as a dedicated Sunday School teacher for many years and continued that service at First Baptist Church of Kerrville when she and Curt retired. She was blessed with a long life with many friends she loved and who loved her in return, and she had the mixed blessing of outliving most of them.
Tommy was preceded in death by her husband and by a baby boy that died shortly after birth. Survivors include her son David Weigle and spouse Mace Welch, and multiple nieces and nephews and their spouses and children.
Visitation will be at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Kerrville.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Garden of Memories Cemetery with Rev. Joey Tombrella officiating.
Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of Kerrville, TX.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff and volunteers of Peterson Hospice, to the staff and volunteers of the senior/homebound ministry of First Baptist Church of Kerrville, to neighbor Linda Morton whose assistance over the long haul was invaluable, and to all those who provided care and concern to Tommy.

I was blessed to have my Aunt Tommy live only about six blocks away from us, making it so nice to walk and visit her when I was just a kid growing up. I was always greeted with a warm hug and a big smile in her eyes as well as on her face. A peacefulness and grace has always exuded from her whenever I was around her. She always had words of wisdom about life and encouragement. There was never a time I felt unloved. I already had begun missing the long phone calls checking up on her months ago. She has left a mark in my heart that will always be cherished and her love will continue to be my guide. She truly embodies the scripture 1st Timothy 4:12 in demonstrating love, being positive, serving others, and having integrity. She inspires me to be more like this. I love you, my sweet Aunt Tommy, and will always hold you close to my heart. I will always miss you and your great laughter, but have such sweet and loving memories. 🙏❤️🙏

Aunt Tommy was a terrific mom, wife, aunt, cousin and friend to many. She loved to talk. I can honestly say she would always keep my sisters and me on the phone talking for FOUR hours!! She never got tired of talking. She retired from Texaco after working there for many years. She spent time in Indonesia and Algeria when her husband, Curt, worked there. Though Aunt Tommy had breast cancer many years ago, she beat it! She also had a bad back and suffered on most days with the pain, but she continued to live her life to the fullest. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do to help someone. She was always happy, smiling and laughing. Aunt Tommy was a devout Baptist and had an immense faith.
Aunt Tommy we will miss you, your sweetness, and those long talks on the phone. This list could go on and on.
We all love you and we all will miss you.

To our family and the many who loved her, Willie Mae was always Tommy. She and my mother were more like sisters than first cousins, and that made her more like my Aunt. Tommy was ALWAYS there for anyone who needed her, whether it was family, friend, or neighbor. I was always intrigued by her stories of visiting Borneo alone, at a time when travel to that country was daunting. Tommy loved Jesus and placed her Baptist principals above everything else. She was our family’s eldest member and she is and will be deeply deeply missed.
