Born on November 29, 1959, in Chula Vista, California, James was the cherished son of Douglas Wayne Whetstone and Edline Lucille Meissner Whetstone. A proud resident of Center Point, Texas, James was a 1978 graduate of Alief Hastings High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and began his journey into adulthood. He was a dedicated employee of Schreiner University for over 30 years as the maintenance supervisor and worked with Hill Country Septic for the last 5 years.
James was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Edd and Leona Meissner, Albert and Nora Whetstone, his dear mother, Edline Meissner-Whetstone, his father, Douglas Wayne Whetstone, and his wife, Judith Chambers, who whose memory he held close to his heart. He is survived by his loving family: his sister, Tammye Renee Elliott; brother, Ricky Lee Whetstone; step-sister, Cathy Tilton; and stepmother, Judith Whetstone. He also leaves behind his niece, Tiffany 'lil bit' Van Dalen, and her two children, Bryson and Ellie.
In addition to his family, James is survived by his beloved girlfriend, Laura Hickey-Tuttle, who was a source of great love and companionship. James was blessed with numerous cousins, aunts, friends, and loved ones with whom he shared countless outdoor adventures, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
A true lover of all animals, James was fortunate to have several loyal dogs and goats throughout his lifetime. From a tree-climbing canine to a Harley-riding partner, and his recent pups who were the largest lap dogs anyone has ever known, to his hand fed-large personality goats, his furry friends brought him endless happiness. James' sense of humor and lighthearted approach to life served as a gentle reminder to those around him to cherish and enjoy the simpler things in life.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of James's family and friends, near and far, for your support and condolences during this difficult time. James was a man who was loved greatly, and he is now finally at peace.
A memorial celebration in his honor will be held in Knoxville, Texas, at a future date, with details forthcoming. Condolences may be sent through the Grimes Funeral Chapels website at www.grimesfuneralchapels.com.
James 'Jimmy' Wayne Whetstone will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

So sorry for the loss of James. He had a huge heart but wouldn’t back down from BS. I met James in 1993 in the Kerrville Jaycees. He was a great volunteer and was up for just about anything. We all had a great time whether is was volunteering, going to the river, riding our Harley’s, or just sitting around sipping on some beer and telling stories. I’m proud to say he was a believer in Christ. I’m also proud to say that he was my good friend. I will miss him.
Til we meet again James, rest easy.

I love and miss you Uncle Jimmy. I'll never forget riding as your 'backpack' on the Harley when I could barely even hold on, eating peaches off your trees until I was sick at the Kerrville house (you warned me!), introducing me to ZZ Top, and how fast you would bolt when I would get ready in the morning and had to put on my socks - 'THE LINESSSSSS!'. I thank you for showing and reminding all of us to slow down and enjoy the NOW. Rest easy Uncle Jimmy.
