It is a heartfelt loss to have to write about such a wonderful friend and fellow Marine as Richard Heimann was, and still will be, to me! First meeting in platoon 1053 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in August 1967 Rick filled the position of "big brother" and roll model for this barely 17 year old recruit. His valued friendship continued on through ITR (Infantry training Regiment) and staging Battalion as we prepared for our Vietnam service in February 1968.
We went to different units but reengaged after Vietnam in Camp Pendleton where I met his lovely wife Celia. Staying in contact, off and on, over the very busy years of work and raising our families, we finally were able to have a three day reunion in Kerrville in May of 2023.
When the years of friendship have been good to us, we had a wonderful visit together as we caught up over the years. I am so pleased that I went to Kerrville and spent those days going to his favorite breakfast restaurant, visiting his daughter Bridgett at her work, the VA hospital for an appointment and just getting reacquainted after all of the years since those days in the service.

I will always value his friendship and memories as I go into the autumn of my own years. I will guide on his nature as an excellent husband, father, friend and outstanding Marine. God Bless you, Rick!

Semper Fidelis.

Gene
